Betting Strategies in Texas Holdem

Betting is an integral part of online poker. Through betting you are increasing the size of the pot that you and the other players have the chance of winning. In some ways, betting is also a psychological strategy. Each time you make a bet instead of folding, you are showing your fellow players that you are confident in your hand thus making them decide their own paths and tactics in playing.

There are many ways that you can take advantage of the betting in order to gain more money, or to at least increase your chances of winning in the game. Don't bet indiscriminately because you may end getting bankrupt because of that. Here are some successful betting tips that you can use when playing the Texas Hold'em variant of online poker.

Blind-Stealing

This kind of betting is applicable only when you are the one dealing the game. It's called "blind-stealing" because you can only invoke it when only you and those that have made blind bets--betting without checking their cards--are the ones that remain in the online poker game. This is simply used to prevent the blinds from folding their cards. You do this by raising your card instead of making a call.

Steal-Raising

This, on the other hand, can be used when you happen to be the last one in the queue, and when all the other players have checked to you. In this situation, you can make a bet so that the game goes on. However, the danger of using steal-raising in the Texas Hold'em version of online poker is that you may find yourself being checked by players with better hands than you have. The trick to using steal-raising is to use it exclusively when you are holding a good drawing hand with you.

Check-Raising

This one can be used as a bluff, which is definitely a strategy central to online poker. Through check-raising, you make a bluff to fool your opponent into thinking that they have better cards than you. When they think that way, then they will definitely make a bet to prolong the game. You can use that confidence into raising the pot, and trap them into making bets. How do you do that? You simply make a check to your opponent.

Opening

This is again a move that is related to bluffing. The opener simply involves the first persons in the queue to raise the other players. This forces his opponents to make two bets simultaneously. This move in online poker can quickly limit the number of players because not all are confident enough with their hands to call. However, this move can be dangerous because you may be up against really good hands. Basically, you can use this to find out which of your opponents have the best hands.

Squeezing

Squeezing in online poker simply means that you take advantage of a good hand in order to lessen players' odds at taking the pot. This is applicable only when you are truly confident that you have the best hand in the game.
